Commodity Distribution

TNCEP participates in a commodity distribution every 3 months given by ETHRA for qualified recipients. ETHRA provides non-perishable food items and TNCEP provides recipes and food samples made with the provided non perishables.

The Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education program is very active in Union County. A local coalition coordinates the educational efforts toward food stamp eligible families.
The Tennessee Nutrition Consumer Education Program's mission is to empower limited-resource families to:
*Reduce the risk of poor nutrition;
*Effectively use food stamps and related resources
*Move toward self-sufficiency.
Through hands-on teaching programs, TNCEP families learn:
* Wise Food Choices
* Cooking
* Food Safety
* Good Health Practices
* Family Wellness
* Disease Control
* Smart Shopping Skills
TNCEP is Empowering People through Community Partnershps. This project is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Human Services in cooperation with Tennessee State University Cooperative Extension Service and Tennessee county coalitions.

Family & Consumer Education Clubs (FCE)

Union County has three FCE Clubs whose mission is education, leadership and community service. These clubs are Hubbs Grove, Sharps Chapel, and Big Ridge. Clubs meet once a month in their local community. Everyone is welcome to attend. The clubs also have a fall and spring banquet.
